Alexandria City Public Schools and Family Legends Book Project

In a new and innovative collaboration Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is working with Living Legends of Alexandria and local artist-educator Sushmita Mazumdar to present a project titled “Making My Family Legend Book.” The project will be one part of the ACPS Summer Enrichment Program held at Lyles-Crouch and Patrick Henry Elementary school for invited students in grades 3, 4 and 5. Through classroom instruction and the use of videos, students will learn how to interview “legendary” family members and draft biographies. In the process students will learn to use effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills, write for a variety of purposes and edit their writing. The end product will be the creation of hand-made Family Legend books.

The Family Legend project is modeled after workshops led by Mazumdar for Living Legends of Alexandria since 2011.
